The search is on to celebrate the best sporting achievements from Hartlepool during the last 12 months. Nominations are open for the 43rd annual Hartlepool Sports Council Awards, with particular focus on clubs and schools as well as individuals.
Hartlepool’s world boxing champion Savannah Marshall and internationally recognised football official Gary Beswick are two to have been recognised in recent years.
Now the question is who will follow in their footsteps.
The Sports Council Awards do not just focus on the big names because it wants to honour people of various standards at the prestigious night held at Hartlepool College of Further Education on Thursday, November 24.
Adam Brooks, Hartlepool Sport Council’s acting secretary, said: “We are looking forward once again to celebrating the fantastic sporting achievements across Hartlepool’s clubs and schools.
“We feel the Sports Council Awards are not only a fantastic opportunity to celebrate our town’s successes but most importantly provide an opportunity to thank our volunteers and coaches for the amazing work and time they put into our community sports.
“Last year saw Gary Beswick recognised for his fantastic services to football officiating, flying the flag on the intentional stage representing Hartlepool and the Referees’ Association.
“We also recognised our very own Keith Thomas in awarding the Lifetime Achievement award for his endless years of support throughout the town. Scott Temple picked up the Hartlepool Sports Personality of the year award for his incredible performances in athletics.”
Hartlepool Sport, the sport arm of the PFC Trust, and the sports council have linked up to organise the awards, with direct funding available to support priority groups to get active and re-engage with physical activity and sport.
Every year the standard of achievements is high and 2022 is sure to be no different.
